black and white dance floor studio 54 theme

One of the most common questions we get asked at Feel Good Events is ‘how much will it cost to throw a party?’ If you have never thrown a party before, you might be in for a bit of a shock! With so many factors to consider, the costs can add up quite quickly. Especially if you want to create an unforgettable experience for yourself and your guests. The type of party you are having, your venue, and how many people you invite will all have a big impact on costs.

So, how much does a party cost? We’ve put together this guide to give you some approximate costs and give you an idea of what to expect!

Everyone’s idea of a great party is different. This means that not everyone will require all of the services listed below. This price guide will give you a good indication of how much various party services can cost. In every category, there will always be cheaper and more expensive services, so this pricing is more in the middle of the range. Again, there are a lot of variables to consider, but this guide will hopefully give you a good baseline on general costs! Keep reading to find out more.

Catering Costs

1 course: $50 per person
2 courses: $65 per person
3 courses: $85 per person

Grazing Table
Grazing tables are becoming increasingly popular at parties and events. You can curate them to match your preferences, and they can act as a focal point at your party. Likewise, you can add props and styling to take them to the next level.

If you choose to hire a venue for your party, this is likely to be the most expensive factor.

Most venues will work on a minimum spend either over the bar or including food.

$5,000 minimum spend counted towards food and drinks (no venue hire fee). This price range is for small to medium-sized venues in the Melbourne metro area.

These venues will have in-house catering that you must use – you can’t hire your own.

DIY Venues
These venues are blank canvas-type spaces where you can bring all your own suppliers. There will usually be a venue hire fee upwards of $500.

The exact fee will vary for each venue and depend on the style, location, and capacity.

*Please note: when hiring a DIY venue, you may need to consider hiring AV, decorations, catering and beverages, a DJ, furniture, and much more. These types of venues usually require a lot more work on your behalf as you are also responsible for cleaning the venue at the end of the night.

Above all, decorating is based on your budget. If you have $1,000 to spend, that’s what it’ll cost!

At a minimum, $1,000 to $2,000 will get you some basic decorations. $10,000 to $20,000, on the other hand, will give you more of a full room transformation for your event space.

On the other hand, if you want to lower the cost of your decorating you can use disposable decorations and do it all yourself.

*Please note: these prices are inclusive of installation costs, but delivery fees will be extra.

10 Reasons Why You Should Hire a Wedding Decorator

Why You Should Hire a Wedding Decorator

wedding planning hire

It’s no secret that wedding planning, decorating, and styling can be stressful, so why not alleviate this stress in whatever way possible? Hiring a Wedding Decorator is one of the ways you can do this.

When it comes to creating the perfect atmosphere at your wedding and making it memorable, decorating is a huge factor. Through decorating, you can bring your vision for your special day to life and make sure it’s an unforgettable experience!

So, what is a wedding decorator and why do you need one for your wedding? We’ve put together a list of our top 10 reasons why you should hire a wedding decorator. Keep reading to find out more!

What is a Wedding Decorator?

Not to be confused with a Wedding Planner, a Wedding Decorator will work with you to help you develop and design your vision for your special day. They can help you plan how this vision will be implemented and create mock-ups of potential designs. Your Wedding Decorator will supply lighting, furniture, décor, marquees, and any other equipment for your ceremony and/or reception. To put it plainly, a Wedding Decorator is responsible for making everything look pretty on your big day!

So, why do I need one? Keep reading to find out our 10 reasons why you should hire a Wedding Decorator.

1. Save Yourself Time

There’s no denying that wedding planning takes time. A lot of time. On average, couples take between 12 and 14 months to plan their wedding, some take even longer! When you combine this with everything else going on a daily basis, wedding planning can become incredibly stressful fast. This is where hiring a wedding decorator comes into play! Save yourself not only time but stress too by hiring a wedding decorator. A wedding decorator can plan out every small detail of your wedding decorations to help you create your dream wedding. This way you can focus on all the other aspects of your wedding that require your attention!

2. Stick to Your Budget

10 reasons why should hire a wedding decorator

Believe it or not, hiring a wedding decorator is not as expensive as you may think. Wedding decorators are pros at what they do! This means they know how to work within a budget. As long as you are clear about what you can afford, your wedding decorator will respect this! They can help you to prioritise what’s most important to you for your wedding decorations and help avoid unnecessary expenses. Wedding decorators are also great at helping you to save money while still creating the wedding of your dreams.

3. Knowledge and Experience

wedding decoration set up

Never underestimate the importance of knowledge and experience! For you, planning and creating your perfect wedding doesn’t happen every day, but for wedding decorators, it does! Wedding decorators have endless experience when it comes to making your big day as special as possible. They know what elements are crucial to include, and the non-important ones you can leave out. Wedding decorators also have so much knowledge when it comes to hiring vendors. They know which vendors and companies are good to work with and which aren’t. This insight will take away the risk of hiring a dodgy vendor and help eliminate the possibility of something going wrong. Hiring an experienced and knowledgeable decorator will mean that your wedding day will run as smoothly as possible! You’ll also end up saving yourself so much time and money!

4. Personalised

Adding personal touches to your wedding décor is the perfect way to make your wedding more memorable. This is another factor your wedding decorator can help you with! If you want to make your wedding represent your relationship, a wedding decorator can help you to bring your unique vision to life. Ideas from both you and your partner can be discussed and achieved through the help of your decorator!

5. Consistency

One of the hardest things to get right when it comes to event, party, and wedding decorating is consistency. If you have a theme or style picked out for your wedding, you want to make sure each element follows this so that nothing looks out of place. This is where a wedding decorator comes in! They can make sure all your decorations and styling items work well together and are consistent with your chosen theme/style. This will mean that everything at your wedding from your lighting to your table linens will be consistent!

6. Blank Canvas

event staff setting up a wedding

Chosen a venue that is completely plain and empty? Not to worry, transforming blank spaces into beautiful wedding ceremonies and receptions is what wedding decorators do best! They can take a blank canvas and bring it to life using colours, design, styling products, and everything in between. Wedding decorators are also pros at maximising the space they have. They can work with the space they are given, however big or small, to create the wedding setup of your dreams! Using décor and styling products, they can create a beautiful atmosphere that you and your guests will love.

7. Schedule

10 reasons why you should hire a wedding decorator

On the day of your wedding, timing is everything. Making sure everything happens at the right time is crucial for making the day run smoothly. Because of this, it’s important to have a schedule in place (and to follow it)! Wedding decorators are pros when it comes to following a schedule. This means they’ll be able to make sure everything you need for your decorating and styling will be delivered, installed, and packed up at the right time.

8. Savings

As you’re probably well aware, getting married is expensive! With so many factors to consider, the price can add up quickly. Because of this, you’re going to want to save money wherever you can. This is where having an experienced and well-connected Wedding Decorator comes in handy. Working in the wedding and events industry has many perks. One of those is supplier discounts! Wedding Decorators work with heaps of different vendors and companies on a daily basis and are very well connected. This means they can often secure a discount for you. If you can score discounts on some of your vendors, think about how much money you could save! You can use this money for other aspects of your wedding planning.

9. Creativity

Decorating is not always easy; it takes a lot of creativity, organisation, and patience to get it right! If you’re not the craftiest person in the world, hiring someone else to take the reins on your wedding decorating might be the answer to your problems. Using their skills and expertise, a wedding decorator can do all the hard work for you. All you need to do is communicate your ideas and vision to them. A wedding decorator can also come up with exciting suggestions that you might not have even considered! They can create a beautiful ceremony and/or reception setup for your wedding and you can dedicate more time to the other aspects of your planning.

10. Your Experience

Elke & Kyle Wedding

As we mentioned earlier, your wedding is not something that comes around every day! It’s a special and memorable occasion, and you, therefore, want it to be the best day possible. It’s also about more than just one day. You spend months, maybe even years, thinking about and planning your wedding. The build-up is just as important as the big day, so you want to make sure you enjoy the entire experience. This is where your Wedding Decorator comes in. They understand the importance of your experience and they will do everything they can to make sure your day is perfect. They can alleviate a lot of your stress so you will be more able to relax and enjoy the whole process!

Conclusion

So, there you have it! 10 Reasons why you should hire a wedding decorator. As we mentioned earlier, the benefits of hiring a wedding decorator are endless. Hopefully, this list has helped you to better understand what a wedding decorator does, and why you should hire one!

Jordan's Graffiti Themed Going Away Party

Saying Goodbye in Style!

Transforming empty spaces into unforgettable party experiences is what we do best at Feel Good Events, and Jordan’s Going Away Party was no exception!

The vision for this event was to transform an empty warehouse into a grungy, club-inspired Graffiti Theme. To do this, we combined bright colours with lots of silver and art-inspired elements. This helped to create an awesome party atmosphere and make guests feel like they were walking into a nightclub!

So, how did Feel Good Events transform this blank space into an awesome Graffiti Themed Party?

The team used Silver Draping to section off areas of the warehouse to create the ideal space for the party. Not only did this hide areas of the warehouse we didn’t want guests to see, but it also completely transformed the space! Next, a dedicated dance floor area was created using 9 tiles of our Black Dance Floor. This was the perfect size for the number of guests attending and as a result, the dance floor always looked full! The team then set up the DJ area right behind the dance floor. This was to keep the energy high throughout the night and help to keep the guests all in one place!

For furniture, we set up plenty of Bar Stools and Graffiti Drums around the party. This gave guests the option to sit down and have a break from the dance floor! The furniture also tied in perfectly with the overall theme. The team set up the bar area next to the dance floor. This meant that guests didn’t have to go far when they wanted a drink!

To create the perfect party atmosphere, a mixture of Mood & Party Lighting was used. Pendant lights hanging inside milk crates added the ‘WOW’ factor to the walkway and food station area. Party lights combined with a smoke machine helped to keep the energy moving around the dance floor area. Likewise, smoke machine is an absolute must if you really want to emphasise the effects of the party lights and keep everything moving!

To add the finishing touches to the theme, the team used lots of decor and styling products. This included Graffiti Backdrops, Crates, Neon Signs, Balloons, and more Graffiti Drums. Next, an epic silver balloon garland was supplied by Belle Balloons and installed above the dance floor to really bring everything together!

Once the setup and all the decorating were complete, the last thing left was for guests to arrive and enjoy the party. The night was undoubtedly a huge success the theming blew the guests away!

How To Decorate and Create An Unforgettable Bar/Bat Mitzvah in 7 Steps

Create and Decorate an Unforgettable Bar or Bat Mitzvah in 7 Steps!

Are you throwing a Bar or Bat Mitzvah for your child but stuck on where to start with your decorating? You’ve come to the right place! Celebrate this special milestone in style using this guide on how to decorate a Bar or Bat Mitzvah in 7 steps. Chances are that you’ve been assigned a Bar/Bat Mitzvah date well in advance. So, why not start thinking about how you’re going to deck out your venue and make it an unforgettable occasion?

Before you can start thinking about your decorating, there are a few things you need to decide on. Firstly, you need to choose a venue. After you’ve done that, you should decide on a theme (if you are going to have one). Once those steps are out of the way you can start on your decorating! This blog post will take you through what to consider when choosing your venue, some popular theme ideas, and a checklist of what you might need for your decorating! Keep reading to find out more.

1. Choose Your Venue

Luna Palace Venue Luna Park Melbourne

Choosing a venue for your Bar/Bat Mitzvah is one of the most important steps in both the planning and decorating process. The venue you choose will dictate how you can decorate the event, how many guests you can invite, and more! Because of this, choosing your venue is always a good place to start.

Some important things you need to consider when choosing your venue include:

Guest List

This one is a given – the more guests you plan on inviting, the bigger your venue will need to be (and vice versa). If you want to create a fun and exciting atmosphere for your guests, you don’t want your venue to feel too empty or too crowded. This means that you should at least have a rough idea of your guest list before choosing your venue. Another factor to consider is that you are likely to have kids and teenagers as well as adults present. Because of this, your venue needs to be able to cater to guests of all age groups!

Budget

Setting a budget for your Bar or Bat Mitzvah decorating is always a good idea. This way you can keep track of all your spending and have something to refer back to. Your budget will also help you narrow down venue options and ultimately choose one!

Location

The location of your venue is important not only for you but for your guests too! You want to make sure your venue is easy to access for your guests – nobody wants to go to an event that is hours away! Does your venue have parking options? Is it close to public transport? Is there accommodation nearby for any guests that might be coming from interstate or overseas?

What is included?

Another important factor to think about when choosing your venue is what is included in the hire price. Do they offer in-house catering and bar services, or will you need to organise this yourself? Do they provide furniture and/or décor? If these things are included, there are fewer things for you to worry about! The services offered by the venue will also have an impact on the price.

Access

One of the important factors to consider when choosing a venue is how long you will have access to decorate it. This also applies to packing it down – how much time do you have and when does it need to be done? Do you need to pack it down that night or can it be done the next day? The shorter the time frame you have for these things, the more expensive it can be for labour costs. Additionally, the smaller the window for decorating your venue is, the more limited you will be with what you can do. These are all factors you need to consider when making your decision!

Does it fit with your theme/style?

Choosing a venue that is more like a blank canvas will make it easier for you to transform it however you like. Alternatively, if you choose a venue that is more historic and has a lot of character, you will be limited with your theme and styling.

Is the floor plan flexible?

Chances are you already have a vision of what kind of décor, styling, and entertainment you want for your event so you need to make sure your venue can accommodate this! Is the floor plan flexible enough for you to move things around or will you need to compromise certain aspects? If you plan on decking out your Bar/Bat Mitzvah with a dance floor and lots of furniture, you are going to need plenty of space to work with!

2. Choose a Theme

Before you can figure out what you need for your Bar/Bat Mitzvah, you need to decide on a theme! Having a themed Bar/Bat Mitzvah will help you to make your event more exciting, and more importantly, more fun for your guests! Choosing a theme for your event can really make the difference in it being a good one and a great one.

Stimulate your guests’ 5 senses and create an unforgettable experience by choosing a theme that is fully immersive. Having trouble choosing the perfect one? Here are some of the most popular Bar/Bat Mitzvah themes:

So, now that you’ve got your venue and theme sorted, it’s time to start decorating! If you are starting off with a blank canvas space, draping is the perfect first step. Draping is a simple but very effective way to completely transform the look and feel of your venue. It can be used to cover up any boring or unsightly walls, or event to section off areas you don’t want to use. Draping is also great for emphasising the theme of your Bar/Bat Mitzvah!

There are several types of drape you can use at your venue, including:

  • Velvet drape
  • Crushed velvet drape
  • Chiffon drape
  • Sequin drape
  • Metallic drape

Choose colours and styles to suit your theme and really take it to the next level! See more about draping here.

4. Furniture

The next step in decorating your Bar/Bat Mitzvah is to add furniture to suit your theme/style. Are you planning on having a more formal, sit-down event, or a high-energy dance party? The type of event you want to have will dictate what type of furniture you will need. If you want your guests to be up and dancing, less furniture is better. A mix of cocktail furniture and some lounge furniture is ideal. This way you can give your guests the option to sit down and relax while they take a break from the dance floor! On the other hand, if you are wanting a more formal event, you will need dining tables and lots of chairs.

Furniture you might want to consider for your event includes:

  • Dining tables and chairs
  • Cocktail furniture
  • Lounge furniture
  • Bar and bar accessories (if this is not already included with the venue)

See more about furniture hire here!

5. Dance Floor

If you want your guests up and dancing at your event, you need a dedicated dance floor area! Not only will a dance floor encourage your guests to dance, but it can also act as a focal point for the Bar/Bat Mitzvah. Even if your guests don’t want to dance, it’s likely that they’ll gather around this area and watch others! Choosing the right dance floor to perfectly match your theme can also significantly enhance the look of your event.

There are many different types of dance floor options to perfectly match whatever theme you choose, including:

  • Black & White dance floor
  • Black dance floor
  • White dance floor
  • Illuminated LED dance floor
  • Parquetry dance floor
  • Outdoor dance floor

Additionally, if you want to add a personal touch to your dance floor, you can add some custom decals!

6. Lighting

70s themed party colourful mood lighting

Lighting is one of the most effective tools for creating atmosphere at your event and is, therefore, a must at your Bar/Bat Mitzvah! Take your decorating up and emphasise your theme by using a mixture of mood lighting and party lights. You can even change the colours and brightness of your lighting throughout the event and as a result, influence the way your guests feel.

Mood Lighting

Mood lighting is the best way to create atmosphere at any event. You can use uplighting to dress up any plain walls with vivid colour or hang festoon lights to create an inviting atmosphere. You can also use mood lighting to highlight the different areas of your venue such as the dance floor, lounge areas, and bar area!

Party Lighting

Party lighting is the perfect way to create movement and energy at your Bar/Bat Mitzvah. Additionally, it can encourage your guests to get up onto the dance floor!

7. Decor and Styling

Once everything else is done, the last step for decorating your Bar/Bat Mitzvah is to add in all your décor and styling items! No matter what your theme or style is, décor and styling products will help you to add the finishing touches to your event.

Here are some of the décor and styling items you might want for your event:

  • Themed backdrops
  • Party props
  • Styling products
  • Flowers and greenery
  • Table décor
  • Candy buffet
  • Balloon garland

See more about décor and styling items here.
